Eastern Delight

About Us

As a group we met through attending adult education classes in Egyptian Dance; we have now been dancing together as Eastern Delight since 2006.  We give demonstrations, perform at local Haflas (Middle Eastern dance parties) and take part in a range of events, many to support local groups and charities.

We practice regularly to maintain levels of fitness and develop technique, our teacher is Faye Disley, who has a number of years experience both as a teacher and dancer.  We are keen to develop as dancers and have attended classes taught by a number of well known international teachers and professional performers such as: Fifi Abdou, Khaled Mahmoud, Shafeek Ibrahim, Hossam and Serena Ramzy, Kazaffi, Randa, Yasmina and Lorna all from Cairo, Ozgen from Turkey, Razia and Jim Boz from America, Galit Mersand from Israel and many others including Aziza and Fereshteh.

In 2008 a group of us travelled to Cairo in Egypt to experience the culture, attend lessons with professional dancers and visit costumiers, we also managed to see the pyramids, take a felucca ride and enjoy a Nile cruise.

In 2009 we attended the International Belly Dance Congress in Surrey, an eclectic mix of teachers and performers who not only taught some excellent classes but provided first class entertainment during the evenings.

In 2010 we visited Istanbul in Turkey to take part in classes, visit costumiers, view some Islamic art, culture and architecture, while also sampling the night life including the Gelato Tower, restaurants and a dinner cruise on the Bosphorus.

And in 2012 we sampled the delights of Marrakesh where we visited the mountans and the coast, (read the full acount of this).
